This new home was purchased from William Aikin by Addis and Sophia Neat in January 1885 for $1,800. “Mr. Neat was one of the best known citizens of New Albany and substantial businessmen of Louisville,” to quote the New Albany Evening Tribune of September 5, 1904. Addis was involved in the retail and wholesale drug business, both in New Albany and Louisville.

In May 1892, Tobias and Mary Hoffer bought the property for $2,500. For a time, Mr. Hoffer was proprietor of the T. Hoffer & Co., whiskey distillers and wholesalers. The firm was located at 106 East Market Street and later 119 East Main Street in downtown New Albany. Tobias passed away in May 1921 at the age of 58 years. Mary remained in the home through the mid-1930s, while her daughter Stella, continued her residency here until the late 1930s. By September 1942, the Hoffers sold the house, ending just over 50 years of ownership by the family.

Following years of neglect, local contractor Cliff Duff purchased the house in March 2013. He undertook a complete rehabilitation of both the exterior and interior, reusing original materials wherever possible. This outstanding project earned a 2015 'Facelift Award' from the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission.
