Along with the house to the east, this Queen Anne cottage was constructed in 1910 for Dr. Joseph Bird and his wife Emma for investment purposes. John and Ida Elliott purchased 1404 East Market in December 1919 and made their home here until their deaths in 1952 and 1954, respectively. Mr. Elliott was a conductor for the B & O Railroad for almost fifty years.
