The Hauss family purchased this property in the mid-1880s and retained ownership until 1946. Dr. Hauss was a very well-respected New Albany doctor, and built the cottage to the east of his home for his office. The owners received a 'Facelift Award' from the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission in 2011 for rehabilitation work, including rebuilding the box gutters, repainting, and replacing the inappropriate porch columns with more architecturally-compatible versions.
