Richard Boardman House
1220 East Market Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
The home at 1220 East Market was constructed c.1880 by Richard Boardman as a twin to the house to the house to the west, at 1216. Mr. Boardman was manager of the Atlantic and Pacific Tea Company. Beginning in the mid-1930s and until his death in 1944, New Albany native George Jouett Meekin resided here. Jouett, as he was known, was a major league baseball player from 1891-1900 and a star for the New York Giants. He also played for the Louisville Colonels, Washington Senators and Boston Beaneaters during his career. Along with Cy Young, Meekin was known as one of the hardest-throwing pitchers of the 1890s, prompting the move of the pitcher's mound back from home plate.
