It doesn't appear that James Wesley Conner ever owned this home, but he was living here by 1856 after moving from the house at 412 East Main Street. Conner was a steamboat captain and piloted the original Robt. E. Lee when it won the 'Great Steamboat Race' against the Natchez, traveling from New Orleans to St. Louis in three days, eighteen hours and fourteen minutes.

The owners of the property, Ellen Cannon and her husband, sold the house in 1873 for the substantial sum of $10,000 to Dr. Peter T. and Artemicia Greene. P.T., as he was known, was a dentist and had his office at 317 Bank Street in downtown New Albany. The home stayed in the Greene family until the 1930s. More recently the building was adapted to office use.
