Morrison-Briggs House

Listing Description:
This new home was purchased by James and Rachel Morrison in December 1856 for $4,000. Mr. Morrison was a partner in the company of Norman, Morrison & Matthews, publishers of the New Albany Daily and Weekly Ledger. He was also a member of the Indiana Senate.

After the Morrisons' deaths, the property was sold to John and Mary Briggs in 1884 for $3,000, and they enlarged and improved the home. John was a dealer in hardware and building materials, and president of the Light, Heat and Power Company. Upon his death in 1895, Mrs. Briggs was appointed president of the company. The house was sold following Mary Briggs' death in 1938.
