Edward and Mary Hackett House
1102 East Market Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
Edward and Mary Hackett had this house built in 1910, on land previously owned by Edward McCulloch. Mr. Hackett was a well-known New Albany businessman and proprietor of Edward J. Hackett Coal Company, located at the northwest corner of East Fourth Street and Culbertson Avenue in downtown New Albany. Another family business was the Hackett Furniture Manufacturing Company. After the death of her husband in 1922, Mary Hackett was made president of that company. By the mid-1920s, the house had been divided into several different dwelling units, and remains so today.

The house was heavily damaged by a fire in November 2019 and demolished in August 2020. The house pictured below was rebuilt on the site, designed to complement its historic surroundings.
