Charles and Barbara Kreutzer house
217 East 9th Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
This home was built around 1911 for Charles and Barbara Kreutzer. The Kreutzers purchased the lot from Mary Day in September 1907 for $1225, but the home does not appear in the New Albany City Directory until the 1913 edition. The house may have been built by New Albany's premier builders of the period, S. Day and Sons.

Mr. Kreutzer was president of the Charles Kreutzer Insurance Agency, located at 145 East Spring Street in downtown New Albany. Charles passed away in October 1925 and it appears that his widow immediately moved to Cleveland to be closer to their three daughters.

Several different families occupied the home from 1926 to the early 1940s, when Thomas and Marguerite Jocelyn purchased the property. This began a residency of almost three decades by the Jocelyn family. Thomas passed in February 1970, and the photo below shows the home circa 1971, when the surviving family was selling the house.
