These townhouses - along with one to the east, at 224 East Main, and one to the south, at 43 East Third - were built by attorney Simeon K. Wolfe for investment purposes. The house at 218 East Main was built in 1880, while the one at 220 was constructed two years later. The houses replaced a brick building constructed on the site in the 1820s. While the four houses share a similar one-third double pile form, subtle differences in the architectural detailing differentiate the properties.
