Sapinsky Block
101 East Main Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
Clothiers Jacob Sapinsky & Son had this ornate Renaissance Revival-style building constructed in 1896, by New Albany contractors S. Day and Sons. They moved into their new building in April 1897. The Sapinskys had begun their business in Scottsburg, Indiana but moved to New Albany in the early 1890s. The Sapinsky Block was sold to the Home Furniture Company in 1919, and that business remained here through the mid-1940s. Schmitt Furniture purchased the building at that time, and remains on 'The Furniture Corner' today.
