S. S. Kresge Building

Listing Description:
This Neoclassical style building was built in 1930, replacing a three-story 1865 structure that was torn down to make way for this structure. The building was likely constructed by noted New Albany contractors S. Day & Sons.

S.S. Kresge Co. 5-10-25 Cent Store, which eventually became K-Mart, only operated in New Albany for seven years; it did not reopen after the 1937 flood, which is seen in the photo below. A number of other businesses have subsequently occupied this prominent corner, including Helman's Department Store and Walgreens.
