Mary Parsons House
1312 East Market Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
It appears that this house was built for investment purposes around 1895. The first tenant of the home was Mary Parsons, widow of Mason. Mrs. Parsons' son and daughter-in-law, John G. and Josephine also lived here and purchased the house in December 1901 from Joseph J. Terstegge.

After the death of Mary in January 1913 at the age of 68, the younger Parsons remained in the home until John's death in February 1939. At an early age, Mr. Parsons was employed at the old DePauw Plate Glass Company. Later he became engaged in the insurance business. For many years, John was one of the leaders in the Democratic Party. He also served as the Floyd County chairman for the anti-prohibition cause. Mr. Parsons was a member of Holy Trinity Catholic Church, located just six blocks west on Market Street.
