Market Street Brewery Storage & Grain Room
315 East 10th Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
Peter Bucheit established his Market Street Brewery here in 1856 with a complex of buildings that spanned almost an entire city block. After a devastating fire in 1875, new brewery buildings were constructed, two of which remain today: this building and the one immediately to the south. This building was used for storage on the first floor, with a grain room on the second. After Peter Bucheit's death in 1876, his widow Barbara took over operation of the brewery for a period of time, before it closed for good in 1890. During the 1920s the buildings were converted into apartments and the structures took on their current Mission Revival appearance. Bucheit's two-story, frame house was constructed at the same time as the brewery, at the northwest corner of 10th and Market streets. It was destroyed by fire in 2002.

This building was used as a church prior to being purchased by the current owners in 2013. They have completely rehabbed the structure as a residence, earning a 2017 'Facelift Award' from the NAHPC for their efforts.
