The first Christian Science service was held in New Albany in November 1902, and the First Church of Christ, Scientist, New Albany received its official charter in 1907. The church met in the former State Bank building at the corner of Bank and Main streets in its early years, then rented space in Maennechor Hall. The congregation moved to 12th and Market in 1917, to a structure (pictured below) that stood in the grassy lot to the west of the current church.
