Gustav Kiel Cigar Factory
312 East Main Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
This building housed a tobacconist from its construction circa 1855 through 1918. Byrne & Snow was the first, followed in 1868 by Serb & Pering & Company, followed by Serb & Kiel, and finally Gustav Kiel & Son.

Since then, the structure has been home to a candy company, a second-hand store, awning company, decor studio, and a mobile home supply store.

The advertisement below depicts the building in 1913, at the time of New Albany's Centennial celebration. The photo shows the building when it was on the market around 1965.

The building was to have been incorporated into a new development on the site, but it was found to be more structurally compromised than originally believed and was demolished in 2021. The new, mixed-use building that replaced it - and the adjacent home at 310 East Main - is also pictured below.
