Direct Oil Service Station
140 East Main Street
New Albany, IN 47150

Listing Description:
Designed by Louisville firm Sullivan and Cozart, this Art Deco gem was built in 1929 for Harry Goulding, for use as a service station. Originally named the Economy Filling Station, it was soon renamed the Direct Oil Service Station. A number of other service-related businesses have occupied the space over the years, including Supreme Oil Service, Hargo Oil Company, Sears Service Station and Abe's Rental. The photo below shows the building circa 1935.

It remained in the Goulding family until 2003. After many years of vacancy, the building was adapted into a bakery in 2016, earning a 'Facelift Award' from the New Albany Historic Preservation Commission for the work.
