This dwelling was constructed as the home of Charles J. Coleman and family in 1910. Mr. Coleman was the superintendent of the Goetz-Coleman Manufacturing Company, later known as Coleman Bros. Manufacturing. The company was located on East 8th Street at the Monon Railroad, and produced gasoline engines. Edward H. Coleman was the other namesake partner in Coleman Bros. Anna passed away in 1933, but Charles remained in the house until September 1962.

New owners Joseph and Doris Herndon were living here by the printing of the 1964 New Albany City Directory. Mr. Herndon, who had worked at Reynolds Metals in Louisville, passed away in 2001, but the house remained in the family until it was sold by his heirs in 2022.

The home is a Folk Victorian with a gabled ell form, and is identical in form to 838 Cedar Bough Place.
