James R. and Mayme Croxall purchased this lot for $900 in October 1901, and the house was completed the following year. Mr. Croxall was proprietor of the James R. Croxall Safe Company. The Croxalls lived here only seven years before relocating to Oregon, where James operated a photographic studio and art store. Mayme died after giving birth to twin sons in March 1912.

John S. and Katherine Cook purchased the property in January 1910 and owned it for the next 15 years, renting it out prior to moving in by 1915. Mr. Cook was a partner in the New Albany real estate business of Johnson & Cook.

John A. and Nellie Hartin were the next owners, purchasing the home in April 1925. Mr. Hartin was proprietor of the Home Steam Laundry prior to his death ini March 1943. Mrs. Hartin continued to reside in the home until October 1968 when she sold the property to Shelby and Constance Humphrey.
