Public hearing on two National Register nominations
Friday February 12, 2021

The New Albany-Floyd County Public Library, 180 West Spring Street, and the Kunz Hartman House, 911 State Street, are being nominated for listing in the National Register of Historic Place. Both are nominated due to their architectural significance, and the library is also being nominated for its educational and civic importance.

The Historic Preservation Commission will hold a public hearing on the proposed nominations on Wednesday, 17 March 2021 as part of its regular monthly meeting. The hearing will be held at 7 PM and will be held virtually to ensure the safety of all participants during the pandemic. Members of the public are invited to particpate and voice an opinion about the nominations.

The National Register of Historic Places is the official list - administered by the National Park Service - of sites, buildings, structures, districts and objects important to our history. National Register designation is primary honorary and does not place any restrictions on property owners; however, listing does qualify owners to utilize rehabilitation tax credits to help offset qualified rehabilitation costs.

Members of the public who would like to take part in the hearing may contact HPC Administrator Laura Renwick (lrenwick@indianalandmarks.org, 812/284-4534) by 4 PM on the day of the hearing for login information. Written comments may also be submitted in advance of the meeting.
